“LOOK AT THE BIRDS. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?”

Dear Bill, I don’t want to be the perpetual thorn in your flesh. Though I love Shirley with all my heart, you may grow tired of me.
The verse you quote is so beautiful yet when taken too far beyond the metaphor it can be harmful. You see I was married many years to a man who only wanted to hear from God, see His hand of provision and follow His will. He was unable to step back and see what he needed to do in the here and now to partner with God. He was one of those who was so heavenly minded he was no earthly good, as the old saying goes. For years I prayed that God would honour his commitment. Until I had to accept that this dysfunction was not how God would want his children to live. So all of that to say I don’t find comfort in some of the biblical verses that tell us how God will take care of us. Wisdom and interpretation is crucial as we read the Bible.
