An Easter Blessing

“An Easter Blessing” was written by my brother Gary on Easter Sunday, 2022.

I walked out the front door this morning to be greeted by a lovely, sleek little Nuthatch on the bird feeder. Now, this is not an unusual occurrence, but this particular morning I was struck by not only its simple beauty, but by how whole, complete and needing nothing (to quote my friend DeeDee Winter, who knows something of the winged life) he was. No obvious concerns about identity, no vocational or habitation issues, no apparent issues with acceptance, security or significance. He was just BEING himself, doing what came naturally — in complete harmony with his surroundings and apparently secure in the knowledge that not one sparrow ‘falls without the Father’. (I assume that includes Nuthatches.)

I found myself envying this wee bird — and suspecting there is something I could learn from him.

I went inside for my morning ‘quiet time’ and, opening my Bible, I read:

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” ~ 2 Peter 1:3

End of quiet time. Rise up and live.

Surely that bird has nothing on us. And yet we often carry on, like birds flying in search of the air, when in Him, we live and move and have our being. We have everything we need. Everything that needed to be done for us was accomplished at Calvary. The same POWER that raised Jesus from the dead was provided to us at Pentecost. Yet we seem to find it easier to continue in our endless investigations into the mystery of the Gospel than to just accept it. It is a mystery for goodness sake.

Accept and believe.

HE IS RISEN — AND WE,
IN AND WITH HIM.
LET US RISE, REJOICE
AND LIVE IN IT!

Have a blessed day,
Gary
